JPMorgan CEO Criticizes CLARITY Act Over Regulatory Concerns
JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon has weighed in on the CLARITY Act, a proposed legislation that aims to regulate stablecoins and digital assets.
In an interview, Dimon expressed his concerns about the act, arguing that it would allow stablecoin issuers to pay interest without adhering to anti-money laundering (AML) and Know Your Customer (KYC) regulations. He believes that this would create a level of unfair competition between traditional banks and digital asset platforms.
Dimon emphasized that if platforms like Coinbase want to act like banks, they should be subject to the same 84 regulatory requirements and liquidity rules as everyone else in the banking industry. He questioned why cryptocurrency issuers should receive a 'free pass' from these regulations, suggesting that this could lead to instability in the financial system.
