Cryptocurrency Influencers on YouTube Face Declining Viewership
The cryptocurrency community on YouTube is facing a significant challenge as viewership declines among popular creators.
According to an analysis by Carl Moon, a well-known crypto influencer, his own channel has seen a drastic drop in engagement. While he was once getting 100-200 thousand views per video during the 2021 bull run, his current view count is around 15-20 thousand. This is not an isolated case, as even during the infamous 2018 bear market, Moon's videos attracted twice as many viewers.
The problem lies in the YouTube algorithm, which has become increasingly hostile towards crypto-related content. In April 2026, a massive 'purge' saw tens of millions of subscribers lose access to their favorite channels, including Bitcoin.com's official account. This move was part of a broader effort to clamp down on what the platform considers low-quality content.
The consequences of this shift are evident in the data, with Google Trends showing that even significant price movements in Bitcoin are no longer generating much attention. Benjamin Cowen's 'Bitcoin Social Risk' graph illustrates this phenomenon, with a stark contrast between the vibrant red and orange hues representing high community engagement during past price spikes and the cold blue color indicating low interest.
