Iran Missile Report Sparks Cryptocurrency Market Volatility
A recent report of Iranian missiles hitting a US patrol boat near the Strait of Hormuz has sent shockwaves through the cryptocurrency market. According to sources, two missiles allegedly struck the vessel near Jask Island after it failed to heed Iranian warnings to leave its territorial waters.
Bitcoin prices plummeted in response to the news, falling from an intraday high of $80,594 to $79,074. This decline was significant enough to erase nearly $1,500 from the cryptocurrency's value. Other major cryptocurrencies like ether and solana also experienced losses, with ether trading at $2,341 and solana sitting at $84.08.
Oil prices also surged in response to the news, with brent crude jumping over 5% to trade above $113 a barrel before paring its gains. The US denial of the report did little to alleviate concerns about the stability of the ceasefire in the region, which has held since early April.
