Whitehat Hacker Returns Funds to Renegade After Exploiting Dark Pool
A recent security incident involving the Renegade protocol has shed light on the importance of whitehat hackers in the cryptocurrency space. On Sunday, a blockchain analytics platform flagged an exploit at 8:27 am UTC, where a malicious logic was injected into a faulty function tied to Renegade's V1 Arbitrum dark pool.
The hacker, who was described as a 'whitehat', returned approximately $190,000 to the Arbitrum wallet address, which included various ERC-20 tokens. This move was made in response to an onchain message from Renegade, asking the hacker to return 90% of the funds and keep 10% as a 'whitehat bounty'.
The whitehat hacker stated that their actions were taken to protect DeFi users and ensure their safety, given the current state of DeFi cybersecurity. They also hinted at the need for Renegade to tighten its security measures, describing the vulnerability exploited as 'tooooo simple and bad.'
