DeFi Exploit Highlights Risks of Operational Key Compromise
A recent DeFi exploit on Stake DAO has raised concerns about the security of operational keys in decentralized finance. The breach, which compromised Arbitrum's deployer key, resulted in the minting of over 5.4 trillion fake tokens, valued at a significant amount.
The attack bypassed every smart-contract control in place and was carried out through a compromised private key with privileged rights. This is not an isolated incident, as similar breaches have occurred on Wasabi Protocol and KelpDAO in the past.
Experts warn that audits alone are no longer sufficient to guarantee security, and that multisig wallet protections are needed to prevent such incidents from happening again.
