Shiba Inu Nears Milestone 1.6M Holders Amid Broader Altcoin Stagnation
The Shiba Inu (SHIB) token has reached a new milestone, closing in on 1.6 million holders. According to data from Etherscan, SHIB now boasts 1,599,919 addresses holding the cryptocurrency, with just 81 more needed to reach this significant adoption benchmark.
The increase in holder count comes despite a prolonged period of stagnation across the altcoin market, which has seen many assets trade at multi-year lows. Analysts point out that SHIB's recent growth is a notable exception, with the token adding 1,633 new addresses in July alone.
Reaching 1.6 million holders would put SHIB among the most widely held cryptocurrencies in the market. However, as the token navigates its next move, it faces significant challenges. According to CryptoQuant, about 84% of altcoins listed on Binance are currently underperforming, trading below their 200-day moving average.
While there are signs of improvement, with sell pressure falling to a fresh multi-year low in June, more dry powder is needed to sustain a move higher. Unless this happens, any bounce may be short-lived and not indicative of a trend reversal.
