Binance Exits EU Market Until MiCA License Secured
Binance is closing its services to European Union clients as of July 1 after failing to secure a Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) license. The move follows the exchange's withdrawal of an application for a Greek MiCA license, which would have allowed Binance to serve customers across the bloc under MiCA's passporting system.
The end of the EU's MiCA transition period marks the end of local registration routes for crypto-asset service providers. Firms without authorization must stop onboarding new EU clients and limit activity to closing out existing customer relationships, with custody only continuing where needed to protect clients during the exit process.
Binance had pursued a bloc-wide license but says it will seek authorization in another EU member state after withdrawing its Greek application. The exchange has indicated that Europe remains an important market and expects to secure a MiCA license in the coming months.
