Altcoin Interest Hits 12-Month Low Amid Growing Focus on Bitcoin
The cryptocurrency market has been experiencing a significant shift in investor focus, with social media interest in altcoins hitting a 12-month low, according to Santiment.
Data from the crypto sentiment platform shows that altcoin social dominance scored 33 for the week ended February 27, a sharp drop from its score of 750 in July 2025. Google worldwide search data also reveals a similar pattern, with the term 'altcoins' scoring only 4 out of 100 near the end of February.
Santiment views this decline as a bullish signal, stating that historically, moments of low interest in altcoins have been followed by rallies. The platform believes that investors are focusing on Bitcoin, which has surged more than 7% in the past 24 hours due to various catalysts including US President Donald Trump's comments on market structure.
However, Michaël van de Poppe, founder of MN Trading Capital, suggests that altcoins could start to take the lead once Bitcoin's rally begins to slow. Santiment claims that the lack of interest in altcoins is a 'strong buy signal', indicating that investors should consider buying altcoins now.
