Solana Wins Big in Korea: KG Inicis Partners for Stablecoin Payments
KG Inicis, South Korea's largest payment gateway, has partnered with Solana to integrate stablecoin payments into its existing checkout system. The deal was signed on June 22 at KGTower in Seoul.
The partnership aims to bring stablecoin payments to KG Inicis's vast network of over 220,000 merchants across South Korea. This represents a significant portion of the country's online payment market, with KG Inicis handling around 40% of transactions and processing over 400 million transactions every year.
The agreement includes plans to build stablecoins checkout for online purchases, recurring payments for subscriptions, split payments across multiple merchants in one transaction, and token-based rewards for merchants. This is a major step forward for Solana's adoption in the Korean market, following similar deals with Toss Bank and Shinhan Card.
Solana already holds $15.21 billion in stablecoins value on its network, with USDC making up around 48% of that total. The platform has seen rapid growth in stablecoin activity, with this partnership adding further fuel to the fire. With MoneyGram and Western Union also using Solana's infrastructure, it's clear that the blockchain is becoming an increasingly important player in the payment landscape.
