Coinbase Expands AI Strategy with Agent- Based Software Rollout

Coinbase, the leading cryptocurrency exchange, is pushing the boundaries of artificial intelligence (AI) in its internal operations and developer stack. The company is testing AI agents that interact with staff like coworkers in Slack and email, marking a significant step towards integrating AI into everyday work processes.

The agents, modeled after former Coinbase leaders Fred Ehrsam and Balaji Srinivasan, are designed to provide high-level feedback to employees. This move builds on the company's existing AI push, which includes internal enterprise agents, AgentKit tooling, and agent-focused wallet infrastructure.

Coinbase has already made significant strides in building tools for developers who want AI agents to act on-chain. Its AgentKit product allows developers to give agents access to blockchain actions such as transfers, swaps, token launches, and smart contract interactions. The company has also introduced Agentic Wallets, a wallet system designed specifically for AI agents.

The rollout of AI agents in Slack and email suggests Coinbase is moving towards a model where AI agents appear in both workplace communication and financial activity. This could lead to increased efficiency and productivity, as well as new opportunities for automation and decision-making.
