Filipino Crypto Influencers Warn of Sophisticated Social Engineering Attacks

Two prominent Filipino cryptocurrency influencers have fallen victim to social engineering cyberattacks. Icesteam Jimenez, a web3 content creator, reported that attackers impersonated podcast organizers and scheduled a video call via Google Meet. The attackers then requested Jimenez to install a malicious file disguised as a StreamYard recording link.

Jimenez emphasized the importance of verifying organizers through multiple channels, saying 'even X accounts with over 100,000 followers with blue tick are not enough to prove someone is legitimate.'

Coincidentally, Coach Miranda Miner (Arlone Abello) also shared a similar experience. An attacker posing as a recruiter requested her resume and directed her to complete an online assessment on a website mimicking the legitimate platform Xobin.
