Flare and Kweather Unite for Blockchain-Based Weather Finance
Kweather and Flare have partnered to bring real-world meteorological data on-chain through their pilot project. The partnership aims to launch parametric climate insurance products that automatically pay out when pre-defined environmental thresholds are met.
The project will utilize Flare's Time Series Oracle, which delivers high-frequency, tamper-resistant data to smart contracts. Kweather will feed temperature and rainfall data into the oracle system, ensuring independently auditable information from the moment it is recorded.
Flare co-founder and CEO Hugo Philion stated that Kweather aligns with Flare's data-centric blockchain ecosystem. The companies plan to accelerate technical development to demonstrate the viability of weather-based financial markets.
The partnership may explore connecting the system to the XRP ecosystem through Flare's existing asset and execution layers over time.
