Kraken Ditches LayerZero for Chainlink's CCIP Amid Bridge Exploit Concerns
Kraken, a prominent cryptocurrency exchange, has announced that it is replacing its current cross-chain infrastructure provider, LayerZero, with Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP). This decision comes after a significant bridge exploit involving Kelp, which resulted in losses of $292 million and exposed risks in legacy cross-chain infrastructure.
According to the announcement, Kraken will use CCIP to handle the movement of its wrapped assets under the Cross-Chain Token standard. The exchange will continue to issue and custody these assets using CCIP. This move is expected to affect over $3 billion in total value locked, with other platforms also migrating to CCIP.
Kraken's adoption of CCIP follows a similar migration by rival crypto exchange Coinbase last year, which selected Chainlink as the sole bridge for about $7 billion in wrapped tokens. The decision is seen as a significant development in the cryptocurrency industry, highlighting the importance of secure cross-chain infrastructure.
