Meta Enters Crypto-Payments Arena with USDC Stablecoin Pilot

Meta Platforms has taken a significant step towards incorporating cryptocurrency into its ecosystem by launching a pilot program to pay content creators in USDC stablecoins.

The initiative, which began in April 2026, enables select creators in Colombia and the Philippines to receive earnings in USDC via the Solana and Polygon networks with payments processed through fintech firm Stripe.

By using existing infrastructure and a dollar-pegged stablecoin issued by Circle, Meta is avoiding the regulatory hurdles that led it to abandon its Libra (later Diem) project in 2022. Instead of issuing its own token, the company is relying on established networks and platforms.

Analysts predict that even modest adoption could shift significant volumes of creator economy flows onto blockchain rails. If just 10% of the estimated $250 billion (as of 2023) creator economy flows through stablecoins, that would represent about $25 billion annually. By 2027, this figure could rise to $48 billion if the broader market expands as projected.
