Kevin Warsh's Senate Hearing Could Shake Crypto Markets
The upcoming Senate hearing of Kevin Warsh, President Trump's nominee for Federal Reserve chairman, is set to take place on April 16. As part of his testimony, Warsh will share his views on interest rates and the Fed's balance sheet, which are expected to have a significant impact on crypto markets.
Warsh has publicly criticized the Fed for dragging its feet on rate cuts, calling the current stance a mark against the institution. He has also spoken about a 'regime change' in how the Fed manages its balance sheet, which would involve shrinking the $6.7 trillion balance sheet before discussing rate cuts.
This sequence is making crypto investors uneasy, as quantitative tightening would pull liquidity out of the system and reduce the appetite for risk. The probability of a rate cut at the April meeting sits at just 1%, June has an 11% chance, and July has dropped to 21%. Bitcoin is currently trading around $67,000.
