OpenClaw Enforces Crypto Ban on Discord Channel Amid Rebranding Scam Fallout

OpenClaw, an open-source AI agent project led by Peter Steinberger, has recently introduced a strict rule in its Discord community regarding cryptocurrency discussions.

The policy bans users from mentioning any cryptocurrencies within the community, with some members reportedly being removed for referencing Bitcoin or other digital assets. The reason behind this measure is tied to a January rebranding incident that exposed OpenClaw to crypto-related scams.

During the transition from its previous name to OpenClaw, scammers seized abandoned social handles and promoted a Solana-based token, $CLAWD, as if it were connected to the project. The token briefly reached around $16 million in market capitalization before plummeting more than 90% after Steinberger denied any involvement.

Steinberger has since warned users that he would not launch a cryptocurrency and that any token claiming affiliation with OpenClaw is fraudulent. As a result, the project's community moderation policies have been tightened to prevent similar incidents in the future.
