Ethereum Unveils Post-Quantum Security Plan Amid Quantum Threat Looms

The Ethereum Foundation has initiated a push towards post-quantum security, acknowledging the impending threat of quantum computers breaking elliptic-curve cryptography. According to researchers, this future is projected to arrive around 2032, necessitating a proactive approach.

The current roadmap targets key post-quantum components for the protocol's 'L' or 'M' fork, roughly around 2029. To address the challenge of aggregating hash-based signatures at scale, Ethereum proposes pairing LeanSig with Lean Multisig, a STARK-based aggregation engine that enables compression and reduces bandwidth requirements.
