Ripple CTO Sounds Alarm on Surge in XRP Giveaway Scams
Ripple's Chief Technology Officer (CTO), David Schwartz, has issued a warning to the XRP community regarding a significant increase in giveaway scams on social media platforms. The scammers are using fake accounts and deepfake videos to target XRPL users, attempting to lure them into sending their cryptocurrency or providing sensitive information.
According to Schwartz, most giveaway or airdrop promotions currently circulating within the XRP ecosystem should be treated as suspicious. He advised users to exercise caution when encountering such posts and warned that anyone claiming to represent him on platforms outside of X, especially Instagram and Telegram, is likely a scammer.
The warning comes amid an ongoing trend of cryptocurrency scams affecting various blockchain communities. Scammers are using sophisticated tactics, including phishing links, fake social media sites, and artificial intelligence-generated deepfake videos, to target unsuspecting users.
