Brazil Regulates Crypto Firms Like Securities Brokerages
The Central Bank of Brazil has issued Resolution No. 580/2026, amending previous resolutions to include Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs) under Type 3 classification.
This move brings VASPs in line with the same requirements as brokerage and securities distribution firms, including prudential requirements, risk management rules, capital requirements, and information disclosure policies.
VASPs will be subject to these regulations starting January 1, 2027, and will also enter Segment 4 by June 30, 2028, losing benefits previously granted due to their low-risk profile.
The measure is part of the bank's efforts to build a safe and proportionate regulatory environment for virtual asset activities in Brazil, aligned with international best practices.
