BancaStato and Sygnum Launch Regulated Crypto Trading in Switzerland
Sygnum and BancaStato have launched regulated cryptocurrency trading in Switzerland. The service is available to BancaStato clients through their existing web and mobile banking apps, allowing them to buy, sell, and hold four supported assets: Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), and Solana (SOL).
The integration uses Sygnum's B2B platform and Avaloq's core and digital banking software, aiming to reduce operational duplication for the bank. BancaStato is the first bank using Avaloq's software-as-a-service model to enable customers to buy and sell crypto assets via their e-banking platforms.
Sygnum has over 25 financial institutions using its B2B platform to deliver regulated digital-asset services, including Societe Generale-FORGE, PostFinance, and VZ Depotbank. The company's chief B2B officer, Fritz Jost, said that BancaStato is a milestone for the maturity and scalability of regulated digital-asset infrastructure.
The launch arrives amid a broader shift in Europe's crypto regulatory environment, with Sygnum receiving a crypto-asset service provider (CASP) license under the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework. This allows partner banks to 'plug into' standardized bank-to-bank infrastructure without facing a multi-year process of creating and licensing their own crypto operations.
