Ripple Expands Presence in Africa Amid Growing Crypto Adoption

Ripple, a San Francisco-based blockchain firm, has announced its plans to expand its presence in Africa, where cryptocurrency adoption is growing rapidly. According to Ripple, the African region has seen a significant increase in on-chain activity, with over $205 billion in transactions recorded between July 2024 and June 2025.

This growth is attributed to countries like South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, and Mauritius, which are establishing clearer crypto regulatory frameworks. These frameworks aim to regulate crypto service providers, strengthen anti-money laundering standards, and protect consumers while supporting innovation.

Ripple has partnered with local fintech platforms such as Chipper Cash, VALR, and Yellow Card to increase access to blockchain-based payment infrastructure in Africa. The firm is also working on initiatives with Mercy Corps Ventures to improve the speed and transparency of aid delivery using blockchain technology in Kenya.
