WWF Scraps Non-Fungible Animal Sale Over Environmental Concerns
The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) has cancelled its sale of 'non-fungible animals' due to public backlash over the project's environmental impact.
The charity had partnered with Polygon, a blockchain platform that is powered by Ethereum. Critics argue that this is not eco-friendly, as the network has a significant carbon footprint and power consumption equivalent to The Netherlands.
Despite claims from the WWF that Polygon is an environmentally friendly option, experts have disputed this, pointing out that all transactions on Polygon are registered on Ethereum.
