China-Based Hacker Group Accused of Stealing $7M in Cryptocurrency through Supply-Chain Attacks
A recent expose has shed light on a China-based hacker group that orchestrated a large-scale cryptocurrency heist. According to reports, the collective, which went by the name Wuhan Anshun Technology, used supply-chain attacks to target users of various wallets.
Using malicious browser extensions and compromised Electron-based apps with remote access tools, the attackers were able to collect wallet information and transfer funds from unsuspecting victims. The group reportedly focused on blockchains such as Ethereum, BNB Chain, and Arbitrum.
The details of the operation came to light after a member of the group leaked internal information in response to an internal dispute over profit sharing and unpaid compensation. While authorities have yet to confirm the case or provide further details, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the growing risks associated with cryptocurrency security.
