AAVE Price Volatility Spikes Following KelpDAO Vulnerability
The cryptocurrency market experienced significant volatility over the past 24 hours, with AAVE being one of the most affected assets. The price of AAVE fluctuated by 20.3%, dropping from a high of $116.08 to a low of $96.51, before recovering slightly to its current value of $96.53.
The main reason behind this sudden drop is attributed to a vulnerability in KelpDAO's rsETH token, which was used as collateral in Aave V3. The attacker exploited this vulnerability and borrowed a large amount of ETH using stolen rsETH, causing bad debt risks for the protocol. This incident led to panic selling and a significant decline in AAVE's price.
Just 24 hours prior, AAVE had surged by 7% due to the V4 upgrade and a $350M protocol fund injection. However, this brief boost was short-lived as the KelpDAO vulnerability incident dominated market discussions and sentiment.
