Poland Adopts Cryptocurrency Regulation Amid Scandal Involving Zondacrypto
Poland has taken a significant step towards regulating its burgeoning cryptocurrency sector with the adoption of a new bill. The legislation, which was passed by lawmakers on Friday, implements the European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA).
The move comes as a scandal involving the collapse of Poland's biggest cryptocurrency exchange, Zondacrypto, deepens. Thousands of users are unable to withdraw their funds, and prosecutors have launched a multi-million dollar fraud probe.
The government has accused Russia of using cryptocurrencies to fund sabotage in Poland, while Moscow has repeatedly denied responsibility for such activities.
