Meta Embraces Blockchain Payments with USDC Stablecoin Payouts
Meta's latest move in the world of blockchain payments has been met with interest from the tech industry. The social media giant has introduced a beta feature that allows creators on its platforms to receive payouts in USDC stablecoins on the Solana and Polygon blockchains.
The functionality is currently available to a handful of creators in Colombia and the Philippines, but it's expected to roll out more widely if successful. By using existing stablecoins rather than building its own cryptocurrency, Meta is playing it safer and avoiding regulatory backlash.
According to a spokesperson, Meta aims to offer 'the most relevant payment methods' for its users, which explains the shift towards blockchain payments. The partnership with Stripe will help address regulatory and reporting concerns related to crypto payments, making it easier for creators to receive their earnings in USDC.
