Spokane Valley Considers Ban on Cryptocurrency ATMs Amid Growing Scam Concerns
The Spokane Valley City Council is scheduled to discuss a proposed ordinance that would prohibit cryptocurrency ATMs within city limits. According to city officials, these machines have been exploited by scammers who use them to defraud residents of significant amounts of money.
Cryptocurrency kiosks are estimated to be located throughout the city, with police reporting substantial financial losses from scams involving these machines. In one recent case, a victim lost $300,000 after being tricked into depositing cash into a cryptocurrency machine.
The proposed ban targets an estimated 20 cryptocurrency ATMs in Spokane Valley and aims to eliminate this avenue for fraud as scams become more sophisticated and widespread. City officials hope that removing the machines will make it harder for residents to fall victim to these schemes.
