DeFi Hack Exposes Oracle Vulnerability, Wipes Out 99% of BLC Value
The 42DAO oracle exploit has resulted in significant losses for Balance Coin (BLC), dropping its value by over 99% after a $912,000 DeFi hack.
Lack of authentication and protection mechanisms allowed the hacker to manipulate BTCB prices, triggering liquidations that wiped out market confidence.
The attacker used the Spotter poke function to inject an artificially low BTCB price into the accounting contract, which was then automatically used to trigger the Dog liquidation module for multiple BTCB-backed vaults.
This exploit highlights the importance of secure oracle design and protection mechanisms in DeFi protocols, as hackers continue to target vulnerabilities in protocol architecture rather than encryption itself.
