Drift Seeks Negotiations with North Korea-Linked Hackers after $285M Heist

A decentralized exchange called Drift has found itself at the center of a high-profile cryptocurrency heist. The exchange reported on Tuesday that it had been exploited for $285 million worth of cryptocurrency, making it one of the biggest hacks in the decentralized finance (DeFi) space this year.

Despite the significant amount stolen, Drift's team has decided to take a unique approach in trying to recover the funds. The exchange sent messages on the Ethereum network to four wallets holding the stolen funds, offering an opportunity for negotiations.

The move is seen as an unusual step in cryptocurrency heists, where attackers often ignore any outreach and associated legal threats. However, Drift's team believes that by publicly stating their intentions and engaging with the attackers on-chain, they may be able to recover some or all of the stolen funds.
