Bitcoin ATM Numbers Plummet 28% in H1 2026 Amid Crypto Volatility
The number of Bitcoin ATMs worldwide has dropped by nearly 28% in the first half of 2026, falling from 39,158 to 28,322 machines. This decline was largely due to a sharp reduction in the US, where 10,380 ATMs were lost, accounting for about 96% of the global decrease.
The drop reflects growing caution among operators amid crypto market volatility and sector losses nearing $890 billion. The bankruptcy of Bitcoin Depot, a major US ATM operator, following a security breach and regulatory challenges, also contributed to the decline.
Despite the reduction, the US remains the largest Bitcoin ATM market globally, holding 71.5% of active machines as of June 2026.
