Bhutan Officials Deny Claims of Selling $1 Billion Worth of Bitcoin
The tiny Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan has found itself in the spotlight due to allegations of selling nearly $1 billion worth of Bitcoin. However, officials from Druk Holding and Investments (DHI), the government-owned wealth fund, have denied these claims.
According to Arkham Intelligence, a blockchain analytics firm, the DHI wallets associated with Bhutan have been transferring large amounts of Bitcoin since 2025. Between 2026 alone, approximately $207 million worth of Bitcoin was removed from wallets. This has led some to speculate that the country is selling its reserves.
However, officials from DHI claim that they do not recall selling any Bitcoin in recent times. When asked about the activity being monitored on the wallet, DHI replied that 'our statement stands and nothing to add beyond it.'
