Malaysia Government Explores Public Blockchain Adoption
Malaysia's government is considering a shift towards using public blockchains, a move that could enhance transparency and security in various sectors. My Blockchain Infrastructure Sdn Bhd (MBISB), a subsidiary of Mimos Holdings Sdn Bhd, is leading the initiative.
The company is working on several pilot projects to demonstrate the feasibility of public blockchains for government applications. These include a trade-related use case involving cross-border documentation with Singapore and Sarawak, as well as a blockchain-based durian traceability system in Penang.
MBISB CEO Azhar Abu Talib emphasizes that the goal is not to move all government data onto public blockchains but rather to utilize their strengths in verification and security. 'The idea is simple: we want to show that you can build on public networks and still maintain security,' he says.
