Crypto Billionaires Fuel Nigel Farage's Pro-Crypto Party
Reform UK, led by former UKIP leader Nigel Farage, has received substantial funding from two prominent figures in the cryptocurrency industry. According to Electoral Commission data released this week, the party has collected £7 million (approximately $9.4 million USD) in donations this year alone.
The largest donation came from Christopher Harborne, a stakeholder in stablecoin issuer Tether, who contributed $4 million. Ben Delo, co-founder of BitMEX, donated $5.4 million to the party. This significant influx of funds has put Reform UK ahead of other political parties in terms of fundraising for the first quarter.
The contributions from Harborne and Delo have been particularly notable, with both individuals having a vested interest in the cryptocurrency sector. As a result, it is not surprising that Reform UK has positioned itself as a pro-crypto party, advocating for policy changes beneficial to the industry. These efforts include proposing reduced capital gains taxes on cryptocurrencies and establishing a Bitcoin reserve at the Bank of England.
