OPP Warns Residents of Cryptocurrency Investment Scam Following $100K Loss
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a recent case of a Petawawa resident who lost over $100,000 to a cryptocurrency investment scam.
According to the OPP, victims often start with a small investment and are then contacted by those involved in the fraud, who may guide them to download trading apps or set up a cryptocurrency wallet.
The OPP is warning area residents of common signs of fraudulent investment opportunities, including unsolicited telephone or email offers, displays of urgency, and requests to transfer cryptocurrency investments to alternate addresses.
