UNDP Taps Blockchain Expertise to Enhance Public Services
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has taken a significant step towards harnessing the potential of blockchain technology for public services. In a move aimed at improving efficiency and transparency in government systems, the UNDP has established the Blockchain Advisory Group (BAG).
The BAG will bring together 26 institutions from the blockchain ecosystem to explore how this emerging technology can be leveraged to optimize public systems and governance. The group's initial focus areas include inclusive finance and digital identity, where it seeks to address challenges such as fragmented payment systems and limited interoperability.
With two meetings scheduled annually, the BAG is expected to foster cooperation between the blockchain community and UNDP, addressing pressing issues in areas like digital governance and climate accountability. As a key component of its agenda, the group will assess how blockchain can enhance financial accessibility, efficiency, and transparency, while ensuring institutional readiness for implementation.
