BlackRock's Bitcoin ETF Sees 33% Performance Gap Over Gold
BlackRock's spot Bitcoin ETF, IBIT, has made significant strides since its launch in January 2024, outperforming the long-dominant gold ETF GLD by 33 percentage points. According to data from Bloomberg senior ETF analyst Eric Balchunas, IBIT has attracted approximately $4.2 billion in net inflows over the period, while GLD experienced roughly $9 billion in net outflows.
This divergence in flows underscores a broader rotation in capital allocation among institutional and retail investors, who appear to be reassessing the relative value of bitcoin versus gold as a store of value. The trend is not limited to short-term spikes, but reflects a sustained shift in investor preference towards digital assets like bitcoin.
