Cleanspark Bitcoin Mining Tackles Noise Concerns in Jellico
Cleanspark, a bitcoin mining company, has reduced its footprint in Jellico, Tennessee from 27 to four pods. The company's representatives appeared before the Jellico Board of Mayor and Aldermen on June 18 to address concerns about noise.
Jellico Mayor Sandy Terry expressed his concern that the new four-pod setup is still noisy. 'But those four pods out there to me seem louder,' he said. 'I mean, I went out there one evening when there was nothing going on just to kinda get a feel of what was going on out there. And they were very loud, and I feel for the people that live in that little area there that has to listen to those.'
Cleanspark's legal counsel, Brandon Rusk, acknowledged the noise concern but noted that the company is within compliance with zoning regulations. 'We currently are within compliance with what the city has set forth, as far as the zoning in that regard,' Jason Bryan, Cleanspark's representative for government affairs and community relations said.
The company is willing to work with the city to mitigate the noise issue. 'And I'm committed to that as well, so taking that to our management team and looking at what that looks like and what we could do along with the city and planning commission,' Bryan said. The discussion included suggestions such as adding trees or bushes to create a sound barrier.
