Paraguay Seminar Sheds Light on Cryptocurrency and Crime Ties
Paraguay's National Anti-Drug Secretariat, in collaboration with the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative and the Prosecutor's Higher Institute of Studies, organized a seminar in Asunción titled 'Dismantling Criminal and Terrorist Financial Networks.' The conference aimed to analyze the trend of transnational criminal networks shifting towards digitalization.
The event highlighted the growing use of cryptocurrency by these networks, including cases related to Hezbollah financing. General Mirko Sokol, Commander-in-Chief of the Bolivian Police, shared insights from a recent case involving Uruguayan drug lord Sebastián Marset. It was revealed that Marset's transactions were mainly conducted through cryptocurrency.
