Ripple's Sports Deal Sparks Controversy Over Institutional Goals
Ripple's recent sports marketing deal has sparked controversy in the crypto sector. The company partnered with the University of Kansas to feature the XRP logo on the university's basketball and football teams' uniforms for five years.
Zach Rynes, community lead at Chainlink, questioned the business logic behind the deal, stating that it doesn't align with Ripple's primary business goal of selling financial technology to banks. He suggested that the campaign is instead aimed at sustaining interest in XRP among retail buyers.
Rynes also pointed out that asset sales on the open market are used to finance corporate acquisitions and stock buyback programs, primarily benefiting private shareholders over ordinary token holders.
