Ripple Taps Agent Economy with AI Payments on XRP Ledger
Ripple has released an AI Starter Kit for its XRP Ledger, enabling autonomous software agents to make payments in XRP and Ripple's dollar-backed stablecoin using x402, a protocol for machine-to-machine payments.
The kit is part of Ripple's effort to tap into the agent economy, where AI agents will pay for services and fees autonomously. However, this move comes late to the game, as other leading blockchains like Solana and Ethereum already support x402.
Ripple is targeting financial institutions with its pitch of fast transaction finality, predictable and low fees, and built-in compliance tools. If successful, this could bring additional activity and capital to the network, but XRP holders will not benefit directly due to the tokenomics that destroy a small portion of XRP with each transaction.
