Kalshi Seeks CFTC Nod to Expand Perpetual Futures Beyond Crypto

Kalshi is seeking approval from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to expand its perpetual futures contracts beyond cryptocurrency. The prediction market platform, which has recorded $16.1 billion in trading volume since launching crypto perpetuals, aims to introduce contracts tied to metals, energy, and foreign exchange.

Under the current review process, the CFTC has 45 days to approve or reject the filing. If approved, the perpetual futures contracts will initially operate 24 hours a day for five days a week, matching the trading hours of the underlying asset.

Kalshi's Chief Risk Officer, Udesh Jha, stated that the platform is exploring expansion into other asset classes, including equities and foreign exchange. Gold has been identified as one of Kalshi's target markets due to strong retail demand.
