Crypto Space Sees Record Number of Hacks in Q2 2026
The second quarter of 2026 has seen an unprecedented number of hacks in the crypto space, with Defillama logging over 70 separate incidents and total losses reaching around $746 million.
This marks a significant increase from previous records, with Q2 2026 already being the most-hacked quarter on record. April was particularly notable, with approximately 30 incidents and over $625 million lost, led by breaches in Drift Protocol and KelpDAO.
The majority of these hacks were smaller-scale attacks, rather than the larger, more headline-grabbing exploits that have defined previous years. This shift has raised concerns about the growing sophistication of attackers, who are increasingly using social engineering and phishing tactics to capture private keys rather than targeting smart-contract bugs.
