CLARITY Act Faces Delays Despite Optimistic Projections from Senator Lummis
Senator Cynthia Lummis is optimistic about the prospects of the CLARITY Act passing the US Senate. In a recent interview, she stated that while it's possible for the bill to clear the full Senate by July 4, a more realistic timeline would be before August 10.
The CLARITY Act has already successfully navigated the Banking Committee's markup stage, but its path forward is not without challenges. Lummis highlighted that the Senate has a packed agenda and that bundling the bill with legislation from other committees and making necessary amendments will require careful negotiations.
One area of focus for these negotiations is establishing ethics provisions for cryptocurrency use by public officials. This step is crucial in gaining the support of over 60 senators, which would secure passage on the Senate floor. While finalizing these details may delay the bill's progress, Lummis remains confident in its chances.
