Crypto Sector Sees Lowest Monthly Loss Since March 2025
The cryptocurrency sector has experienced a significant decrease in losses due to cyberattacks and exploits, with February 2026 reporting the lowest monthly figure since March 2025 at $37.7 million.
Notably, the largest incident involved the SOF token, which lost $10.5 million, while phishing incidents accounted for approximately $8.5 million of the total loss. Address poisoning scams, however, have reached record highs in frequency, with over one million attempts per day on the Ethereum network alone.
Recent upgrades to the Ethereum network have lowered transaction fees, making it cheaper for attackers to spam thousands of wallets with poisoned transactions. Experts are exploring solutions such as automatic checks for 'poison addresses' and pre-execution risk assessments to combat these types of attacks.
