David Sacks has announced his departure from his role as the White House's AI and cryptocurrency czar, citing that he has reached his 130-day limit in this position.

The venture capitalist was appointed last year to lead President Trump's priorities around AI and cryptocurrency, becoming the first individual to serve in this dual role. However, under government regulations, SGEs (special government employees) are only permitted to serve for no more than 130 days over a 12-month period.

Despite his departure from this specific position, Sacks will continue to contribute to the White House's efforts by co-chairing the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST). This council consists of 13 prominent technology and business leaders, including Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg. As co-chair alongside Michael Kratsios, director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy, Sacks will help shape policy recommendations for the Trump administration.

The council's focus on AI is expected to be a major area of emphasis, with Sacks predicting that it will be a 'heavy focus' of their work. He also highlighted the importance of considering the impact of AI on various aspects of society, including its effects on the economy, workforce, and national security.
