VersaBank Completes Tokenized Deposit Pilot on Algorand

Canadian digital bank VersaBank has announced the successful completion of a pilot program for tokenized bank deposits on three blockchain networks: Algorand, Ethereum, and Stellar.

The bank's RBDTs, or regulated bank deposit tokens, represent federally regulated bank deposits and may qualify for conventional federal deposit insurance, subject to regulatory approval. This could provide a superior alternative to traditional stablecoins, which do not offer interest payments.

VersaBank's pilot program marks an important step in the evolution of digital assets and demonstrates the growing adoption of blockchain technology in traditional banking infrastructure.
