Indiana Bans Crypto Kiosks to Prevent Elderly Scam Victims
Indiana has become the first state to ban cryptocurrency kiosks, also known as crypto ATMs, after a landmark legislation was signed into law. This move is expected to prevent scammers from targeting older adults who are disproportionately affected by these machines.
Cryptocurrency kiosks can be found in various locations such as supermarkets, convenience stores, and gas stations. They allow users to exchange cash for cryptocurrencies, but they have also been used for illicit activities. According to the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3), fraudsters used virtual currency kiosks to steal over $333 million in 2025 alone.
The new law, which comes into effect immediately, aims to protect Hoosiers from financial losses due to these machines. It is considered a major step forward in consumer protection and will likely serve as an example for other states to follow.
