OKX Unveils Exchange OS Upgrade for Unified Trading Infrastructure
OKX, a leading international cryptocurrency exchange, has introduced a major upgrade to its X Layer protocol called Exchange OS. This new infrastructure provides a unified platform for deploying spot, perpetual, and outcomes trading venues.
The key features of Exchange OS include shifting core exchange functions such as matching, margining, liquidation, settlement, and risk management to the protocol layer. This allows venue operators to have flexibility in front-end design, compliance, and operational structure.
According to OKX's announcement, the rollout is governed by the XIP-Exchange OS framework, with documentation outlining the system's architecture, governance, and roadmap available for review. The first deployment of Exchange OS will be a simulated 2026 World Cup Outcomes market in June, with broader access to follow in stages.
Several ecosystem partners have been included at launch, and technical aspects highlighted include millisecond-level matching latency and the capacity for up to 300,000 transactions per second.
