Yield Guild Games Abandons Web3 Publishing Amid Crypto Market Decline
Yield Guild Games (YGG) has announced that it will be shutting down its publishing arm, YGG Play, and laying off 35 employees. The decision comes as a response to the prolonged downturn in crypto markets and the difficult environment for video game publishing.
The company cited weak consumer demand in crypto gaming and the broader Web3 publishing market as reasons for the shutdown of YGG Play. According to YGG's announcement, the decision is driven less by product performance and more by the economics of Web3 game publishing under current conditions.
YGG plans to redirect its resources toward building 'AI data economy' pipelines using behavioral datasets generated by its global community through gameplay. The company believes that games create complex, real-time decision-making environments, which can be used to train AI systems.
