ZetaChain Pauses Cross-Chain Transactions Amid GatewayEVM Contract Attack
ZetaChain, a Layer 1 network focused on blockchain interoperability, has taken precautionary measures to halt cross-chain transactions after detecting an attack on its GatewayEVM smart contract. The incident was identified and addressed promptly, with the team confirming that only internal wallets were affected and no user funds were compromised.
The GatewayEVM contract serves as a key entry point for cross-chain activity between EVM-compatible networks and applications on ZetaChain, facilitating interactions across connected chains. However, the attack compromised this functionality, leading to an investigation by the ZetaChain team.
DefiLlama data indicates that approximately $300,000 in losses resulted from the incident. While ZetaChain has not confirmed this exact amount, it has stated plans to publish a detailed post-mortem analysis to further understand the incident and prevent similar occurrences in the future.
